Madam C.J. Walker
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Author: Alelia Perry Bundles
Average review score:

Good reading!!
I purchased this book a couple of years ago. The author did a great job of wetting the appetite of an admirer of Madame Walker. The pictures were great and I look forward to passing it down to my children. The only downside to the book was that it didn't give any info as to what happened to the business after Madame Walker passed on and what happened to the grand daughter of Madame Walker. Madame Walker is an inspiration to me and was a remarkable woman.

MALICE DOMESTIC 6
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Pocket Books (April, 1997)
Author: Anne Perry
Average review score:

Seventeen Mysteries In The Tradition Of Agatha Christie
Mystery writers from Britain, Australia and America come together in this collection of traditional mysteries. Anne Perry, in her introduction, is witty, informative and sets the scene perfectly for the stories that follow. I especially liked the first story written by Agent No. 5 and Agent No. 6 (Edward Marston and Peter Lovesey). Unusual and very funny. As with the previous books in the Malice Domestic series, it is good way to check out mystery writers you may not be familiar with. I've discovered quite a few of my favorite authors this way. There's only one problem. I've read all of the books in the Malice Domestic series now, one through six, and I'll have to wait until next year for number seven

Average review score:

His Manhood-Our Hope
Tho written more than a century ago, Fosdick's insights and reflections on the personality of Christ remain fresh and relevant. My grandfather took this little daily devotional book with him into the First World War; my father took it with him into the Second; and it is just as insipiring for the conflicts of today. You will find daily gems of insight and inspiration. Well worth your time and study.

Maternity & Women's Health Care

Updated.... complete.... excellent resource
My copy of this new edition just arrived, and I'm thrilled with it! More color, more summaries, more of everything... Certainly a nursing text book is not going to hit the Best Seller List, but this one should be on every nurse's wish list. While its target audience is nursing students, the book is a great reference for experienced nurses, too. It covers all aspects of women's health care, from well woman exams, to birth control, and pregnancy to menopause.

New additions to this, the 7th Edition, include expanded information on health and risk assessment, psychosocial issues, Spanish/English translations to facilitate care, information on alternative and complementary health care, and a CD ROM with addtiional resources, study guides, and illustrations.

The editors and contributors have provided an excellent resource for nurses involved in all phases of women's health care.

The Maxfield Parrish Identification & Price Guide
Published in Paperback by Collectors Press (May, 1995)
Authors: Erwin Flacks and Richard J. Perry
Average review score:

Advice From a Parrish Fanatic
Incredibly useful. I believe Flacks has written the most accurate and convenient pricing guide available for Maxfield Parrish collectors and anyone else who wants to figure out what a Parrish item is worth. If you're looking for a great coffee table book, I suggest Alma Gilbert's The Masterworks. -- James Halperin, sf novelist (The Truth Machine & The First Immortal) and Parrish collector.

Me and the Spitter: An Autobiographical Confession
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (April, 1974)
Author: Gaylord, Perry
Average review score:

AMONG THE BEST BASEBALL AUTOBIOGRAPHIES
Well written, moves along nicely, sounds like it really is Gaylord talking, and has lots of good material about the spitter. Written in mid-career. One very interesting tidbit is the story of his first time throwing the spitter in a major league game, because it's a game that many of us old-timers remember for a different reason: it was the 23-inning game in 1964 between the Giants and Mets, which I think was also the first-ever extra-inning game at Shea Stadium. I remember that I noted at the time what a great relief job Gaylord did -- he pitched the last 9 or 10 innings -- but of course we didn't know about the secret subplot. (The losing pitcher, a guy with a similar first name, Galen Cisco, also pitched the equivalent of a complete game and also did a great job.) Gaylord was then a marginal young pitcher on the verge of getting shipped out, and he had to do SOMETHING; I guess we'd have to say it worked. In the end portion of the book, he explains that he had stopped putting anything illegal on the ball and that he was able to get it to do the same tricks just by using his perspiration. But, of course, who really knows?

Measures of Effectiveness for the Information-Age Navy: The Effects of Network-Centric Operations on Combat Operations
Published in Paperback by Rand Corporation (May, 2002)
Authors: Walt L. Perry, Thomas J. Sullivan, Jerome Bracken, and Robert W. Button
Average review score:

Great novel approach
This is a great new approach to determining the impact of information on the outcomes of military combat. The results of this work are well presented, allowing the reader to understand how the theory can be applied outside the example scenarios presented.
